Eid ul-Qurban or Adha, the recognition of felicities and sacrifice of our own animal natures in return for becoming human.
With Eid e Qurban approaching fast. We still have a little time to think before Arafat day and the dua of Imam Husain of the things we have to thank Allah for in our lives at a time where lives and families of our brothers and sisters in especially the shia faith are in turmoil and being displaced for their crimes of loving the Ahle bayt.(as) while we complain about the global economic crises without much thought about the uncountable blessing Allah HAS bestowed and continued to bestow upon us.
Our Holy Prophet (saw) has said that after faith, health and security are the greatest blessings that Allah awards his servants.
Are our families and our relationships secure and protected? Do we have a comfortable home (whether rented or owned) to come back to with our families at night. Do we have running water and are our children within the deen?
Are our youth safe from drugs, alcohol and other global threats on our faith?
Now write down all the things that we constantly complain about in our lives and ....burn them unless related to the above three. We have no right to complain but only to begin to turn to Allah for guidance for the things that He is waiting for us to change (the animals to sacrifice) so that he can give us those things that were burned up in smoke. Like we burn away those animals natures in us through our struggles to become human and find in our humanity our diamonds,
How many extra trouses, or celebratory dresses do we own in our closets only to go looking for more, or perhaps it's the elecronic 'smarts' that we have our eyes on so we dont have to use our own 'smarts', or a bigger TV screen so we can waste even more time, or who knows a bigger house to store what we already have and the things we still have our eyes on. Lets face it, these ain't making Allah any happier and who knows, they may just be the cause of our troubles. Allah's displeasure causes our own.
Is it possible that next time we wanna obtain what we already have lying around somewhere, is it possible that we can think of what we can donate? And how about this? Next time we try to fill a void with those things that will never fill a void, perhaps we can write down something more we wanna learn instead. It's not a joke
Our prophet (saw) has said that you will not give up the world until mud enters your mouth (its not an exact quote) but will we continue till we are in our grave?
Think of the last time we learned something and how good we felt, then compare it with how long we were happy when we acquired something. Ok sisters...don't think of your favorite hijab because we dont have the latest print or brothers that smart phone that you proudly walk around with and have to have to keep up an image with.
I apologize if I sound 'preachy' I'm talking to myself loud here as well as to my children.
Anyway, thats as far as greed goes...but we all know our inner demons don't we. Well thank ALLAH that none of us have the major ones like ghaibat and glaring at non muslim sisters in the street. But what about this thought. When we listen to music, does it stop us from thinking about something better? does it block that natural flow of creativity and inspiration from a higher source? And what about our Nokias??..ok they may be off the list now but how many of had them when they were'nt.
Why did I mention Nokia in that paragraph...for this reason. As music prevents our inspiration and guidance (the angels that we are told that stay around us if we are not listening to music) if we have Nokia (and the clear sound waves that come with it) how much clarity will we have when Imam (mahhr) calls. Are you getting the drift or have I lost you? Oppression prevents inspiration and our connection with the Imam.
Ok. I know I went off from the subject of Eid...sort of but since its all one and all about getting rid of our demons...I did'nt really. And besides, this is'nt a media channel where I have to watch what I say...I'm talking to myself and hoping someone else among our community feels the same or benefits.
If I have offended anyone, I'm sorry, if I was preechy...that's ok its the mood of Hajj and the anger of the predicament of our brothers and sisters in Pakistan, Syria, Afghanistan and even Turkey where they have to hide their love for the Ahle bayt (as). I'm also very passionate like most of our shia sisters when we get upset about injustices either from ourselves or towards our shias and muslims in general...ok against humans...alright we can add the animals and the environment too...whew...we covered a lot of ground. NEVER GIVE UP THAT PASSION. It's what makes us feel alive and gives us something to die for.
So really, life is good as long as we have our Iman, our hijab, and are still waiting for Imam (mah
hr) with our hearts and our children are too, as long as we can do wudhu and our water has not been contaminated by those companies you all know as well as I. We're in good shape...so let's see how we can spread the blessings this Hajj season and give a little back.
Thanks for dropping by, let's sacrifice those animals together.
Oh one more thing...for any resolutions you are planning to make...remember our Holy Prophet (saw) tradition: You will never remember anything....until you write it down.
