A heart warming dowery story..ofcourse they exist
I wanted to share with you all a very sweet mehri or dowery story that took place very recently.
Recently a 25 year old Iranian brother and colleague of mine at one of my jobs found his match with a sister from Hamadan (also Iranian). He came up to me very enthusiastically to share the story of his marriage with me.
He narrated to me the details of this sister and her background and age (21). I asked him "Ok brother, heres the test, How many gold coins."
Now we are all familiar with the rising dowery that goes up with inflation but heres the thing. He said to me well we agreed on 14 gold coins but as we were performing the Nikah at the Haram of Lady Masouma (as) suddenly my wife asked to speak to her father who quietly took my father aside. When everything was done and the ceremony was about to commence I asked my father what was going on. He replied that my wife had asked for the mehri to be reduced to 5 gold coins instead.
Now, as the agreement had already been made and the contract had been signed my father decided to let it be at the original dowery. The brother's comment to me was it showed me the upbringing of this sister as well as what was truely important to this family. This young sister at the age of 21 understood that gaining the love of the husband did not require the display of the number of gold coins he was willing to write down but her display that she was willing to give it up..
I said to the brother, I bet your love for her sky rocketed at this point because what you have found is indeed rare. He smiled.
I am truely happy for this very sincere, hardworking and pious brother.
May they both be happy.
Any more chicken soup for the Shia/Muslim's heart stories????
